Starting my exploring with drunken cat figure in the alley. I don’t know what to expect from this alley in Dotonbori. However, I press on to find local Okonomiyaki place as recommended from locals.

The place is filled with people chatting and having a good time. I felt like this is a kind of place for hanging out after a long day. Then I ordered Beef tendon + Green onions + Konyaku and added pork and soba noodles.

As I sit in the counter and enjoying cooking show, I found it rather difficult to control myself in front of these gorgeous looking Okonomiyaki.

Finally, my menu has arrived! The texture of flour is well-blended and not too coarse. Fresh ingredient also supports the Okonomiyaki for a delicious menu. Especially beef tendon, I would order extra beef tendon as a la carte if they have it.

Recently visited Abeno Harukas 300 skyscraper near Tennoji station in Osaka. As the building height is 300 meters. The observation deck provide broad view over Osaka areas.

Kurukuru

Osaka are well-known for Takoyaki with fierce competition in Takoyaki business. As I stroll around in Dotonbori with crowded tourist from many countries. It is quite a difficult challenge to decide which place to try Takoyaki.

I decided to walk around to survey the areas before deciding which place to try out. Bought a pack of grilled crab on the way. The texture of crab is quite dry. Possibly from excessive heat on grilling process.

Finally ended up with this place. After waiting in queue for 15 minutes, I ordered one set of Takoyaki and Akashi Yaki.

Akashi Yaki was good however, Akashi Yaki from Kobe are still better.

It’s alive! Takoyaki
The restaurant claimed that they use Sashimi grade Tako which could be clearly felt when I taste Takoyaki. Tako was fresh and have good elasticity with some seasoning and it did not take long time to finish all Takoyaki.

Kobe is the capital of Hyogo prefecture and a busy port town. With these various trading activity, Kobe became blending pot for series of culture and various structure style from many regions.

I started with Tachiba restaurant which I have discovered without doing any preparation and research before traveling to Kobe. The place serves Akashi yaki which substitute Takoyaki flour by egg.

The result of changing the ingredient? Well, it’s amazing! Egg gave a fluffy texture and dipping Akashi Yaki into the light clear soup make it one of most appetizing meal I have ever came across. Gotta love it when chef flip the pan and Akashi yaki just came out easily and ready to be serve.

Then I went for a dessert café (La sensation) and got a custard cake with small dot of sour sauce to provide more dimension in color. Most satisfying cake indeed.

After having a nice snack and dessert, I stumbled upon Motoko market which located under the train track in Kobe. Series of classic and interesting shop inside for exploring.

Steakland Kobe

Starting with my trip in Kobe by visiting Meriken park in Kobe. Kobe is a beautiful port town as harmony between town planning are beautifully managed. I have attached video taken from Starbucks showing fantastic view on a sunny day in Kobe.

As I am in Kobe. Kobe beef is a must try delicacy. I went for a Steakland near Sannomiya station which just recently renovated. The queue took about 20 minutes until they invite me inside for a beautiful marbling Kobe beef meal.

I went for a Kobe beef steal lunch set (150 g).

Then they start serving side dishes and ask whether I would like some fried garlic.

After finishing preparation, the chef started cooking the beef using Teppanyaki technique. It is one of the most interesting sight to see how well-trained cooking technique.

The beef texture is so tender. Does not take a long time to finish this exceptional meal. No wonder why Kobe beef are so famous in the Culinary world. Personally, I think the sauce does give some kick which make the beef more interesting in term of flavor.

Kuishinbo YAMANAKA

Yoshoku is a type of Japanese cuisine with combination of western influence in Meiji restoration period. Today, I will visit a Yoshoku restaurant with exceptional ranking as top 1000 best restaurant in Japan from Tabelog. The place is located near Katsura station in residence area and no visible tourist attraction around.

The history of the restaurant leads back as nearly 40 years old. Ambiance of the restaurant are more classic with dark tone. I ordered Gyukatsu set which is Fried beef cutlet topped with signature sauce.

Starting with refreshing salad.

Gyukatsu were sliced into many biting sizes. Crispy cutlet with juicy beef and savory sauce provide satisfying flavor. Also, baked potatoes and butter also provide buttery texture to the meal.

Nishiki Market

Street food is one of the aspect that I’m looking forward to start exploring when traveling in Japan. Starting with Nishiki Market located near Sanjo area.

Takoyaki at Karikari Hakase [200 Yen]
Cheapest Takoyaki I have ever came across in Japan. The store is usually packed with people. The flour was good with little piece of Tako which is quite reasonable for the price.

Baby octopus on a stick at Kai [300 Yen]
Glazing with sweet sauce. The texture is gummy and enjoyable with a little turn from egg inside baby octopus.

Three pieces per portion (The missing one from photo are in my mouth at the moments I took the photo). Personally, I think the shrimp were too salty for my taste. Still very fresh shrimp.

Too many crowded and I could not get in which I decided to try other store. Still seems like a good place.

Crazy parfait with topping such as fried shrimp, Tonkatsu, corndog, French fries and fried chicken :O Never cease to amaze me. The store is located near the main road.
