SARATH N. CHOCOLATIER

Coffee specialist have been popping up like crazy in Bangkok. As a Choco Devil, I have been waiting for a Cocoa specialist place for some time and my wish seems to becoming real recently. Sarath have been opening since last year and I have been visiting to check their development which seems rewarding every time.

The place is quite small with less than 10 seats for a cafe. Still, it makes staff and customers closer and easier to learn more about origin of their cocoa which is originated from southern part of Thailand. Giving stories and origins of cocoa for better experience.

Orange infused drinking water

I have visited around Easter season and they have some special menu of egg shaped chocolate that I found amusing with Bon Bons and other cocoa products.

Their special menu at that moment are Bird’s nest [185 THB] which is Hot chocolate served with egg shaped chocolate embedded with caramel and orange sauce with bird nest shaped chocolate. Starting by crack open the egg then mix the caramel with your hot chocolate. In case the intensity is not quite enough, add bird shaped chocolate to your liking.

The taste of chocolate are just insanely good, Balance cocoa blend and not too bitter flavor with a touch of orange to spice up your experience. I would personally say that this one could be compared to hot chocolate drink I have had in Zurich which is amazingly good already.

Then my group went to a recently opened chocolate specialist place called “Paradai”. The name are originated from a supplier of Cocoa in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province in southern part of Thailand. The word means family and harmony in Thai language and it also rhyme with Paradise in English as the staff informed me.

Paradai open from 9:00-18:00 and close on Tuesday. Three months old as the day I visited. Some system are still balancing however, I’m certain that the quality of Cocoa is worth waiting.

I have ordered nearly all Bon Bons they could provide that day with a cup of Marshmallow Hot Chocolate and a guest star “Jin-Kun” from Hokkaido >_< Hot chocolate with generous amount of cocoa is one of the best way to start my exciting day. The taste are not too bitter or too sweet.

Sainumpueng orange cream cheese – Sweet & Sour Sainumpueng orange with creamy cheese flavor just to kick start my appetite.

Chompooparn (Raspberry & Roselle) – Moderate amount of acidity and sourness with decent amount of cocoa.

(Nilratt) Matcha & Sencha – Not insanely sweet like majority of matcha products in Thailand with decent of of Tea aroma.

DSC07865

Surakarni (Thai milk tea) – Perfect combination of Thai milk tea with balance sweetness and aroma of milk tea with enjoyable cocoa.

Wiroon Hok (Galangal & Yuzu) – My friends clearly doesn’t like this one since Yuzu and Galagal are not a familiar choice for sweet in Thailand. I personally like Yuzu in sweet recipe since it could brings out insane amount of goodness from boring sweet aspect by adding fresh acidic aroma. Personally recommend this for more adventurous flavor. Galangal also have some warm aspect and I would love to see more of these colorful flavor in the future.

Hanuman (Hazelnut & Malibu) – Alcohol aroma with bitterness from cocoa and crunchy texture from Hazelnut.

Sahassadejd (Salted caramel) – Sweet and salty with melty chocolate texture. This one does rise as one of my friends favorite.

Nowhere [n.] /ˈnoʊwər/ or /ˈnaʊhɪə/

DSC05438

Every once in a while, I discover new place with lots of exotic view and fresh inspiration. For this week, Nowhere is the place that I fell in love at first glance. The decoration are spot on with infinite stairs that defines “journey” as a fundamental part of life.

DSC05462

I arrived around 5 pm. Natural light at that moment gave out some warm and tranquility feeling. On contrary to the location in Ekkamai which is one of the most busiest area in Bangkok, the place are perfect for hanging out after a long day.

Let’s get started with some amazing cuisine Nowhere has to offer.

DSC05525DSC05489

Watermelon Salad – Inspired by Thai traditional “Tang Mo Pla Haeng” Tossed watermelons served with fresh baby spinach, topped with Feta cheese and Bonito flakes, and seasoned with Sumac vinaigrette to convey Umami flavor.

Watermelon packs a fresh and cool punch with crunchy texture supported with mild Feta cheese flavor and distinct flavored bonito flakes. Fresh baby spinach and Sumac vinaigrette also packs balanced flavor and brings harmony to the dish.

Tumeric chicken – Marinated chicken wings served with deep-fried tumeric, & herbs and spicy apple salad (Twisted from famous fried chicken at pattaya beach)

At first I thought that the chicken would be dry & crispy like most of Tumeric chicken in Thailand. The texture seems to be more like buffalo wings. Seasoning are so well-developed with sweet, mild spicy and a little bit of sour. One of the best Tumeric chicken I ever had.

Fried Sardinella – Served with Yuzu Togarashi, horseradish mayo and lemon.

First time trying fried Sardinella. The fish could be eaten whole without and small bones at all. Texture are kind of crispy with a twist of lemon and mayo defines as most suitable for drinking snack.

Japanese Carnitas Pizza – Japanese pork Canitas, asparagus, miso tomato sauce, leek, garlic, mozzarella and parmesan. Carnitas: Mexican braised pork in hot water until tender

Twist of Mexican and Japanese food, now that’s one exciting choice. Pizza texture located on thick and soft area. Carnitas texture are just melt in my mouth with mildly sweetness flavor. Added with creamy cheesy texture. It’s one of the pizza I couldn’t have enough.

A mess of Nowhere – Meringue with dark chocolate and rum sauce served with yogurt cream and fresh strawberries. (Inspired by Eton Mess, a classic English dessert invented around 1920s at Eton College,UK)

I would say this is a “Hot mess” in positive way. Dark chocolate are partly bitter and sweet in the perfect harmony. Meringue are not too dry and compliments with melty chocolate and distinct kick from rum with sour & sweetness from strawberries.
