Pho Kitchen

Recently I had been visiting numerous freshly opened restaurant by passionate and innovative chef around Bangkok. All of these places have one thing in common as they run their business with quality menu which reflects their background to their customers. Pho Kitchen are hidden in Ladphrao soi 29 which could be difficult to access under rush hour. Luckily, the place is not quite far from MRT Ladphrao station.

So what is special about Pho Kitchen? First of all, it took me whole month reservation before my first visit due to seat limitation and since all of their menu are freshly made in an open kitchen (not just an open kitchen with glass protection, this one you can literally smell your menu being cooked). That leads to the second point where you could order your menu and take your time to study and decide menu before visiting the place without pressure.

Organic Salad (Organic Veggies, Chibi Tomato, Fried Banana, Seasonal Veggies) [110 THB]

A generous portion of salad originated from A little farmer in Nakornpathom area of Thailand. More beautiful Veggies are placed in Salad plate when less aesthetic ones are fed to Chicken in their farm which their eggs are also used in this restaurant. All green veggies and tomato are just enjoyable. I like the idea where small spliced banana are presented for a small crunchy kick and still not overpower the salad which is the same for pumpkin portion.

Summer Pasta (Spinach pasta, tomato, onion, bacon mushroom) [135 THB]

I would say this pasta is just suitable for a refreshing summer with a acidity from tomato and sweetness from supporting elements.

Carbonara Pasta (Spinach pasta, cream, Parmesan cheese, Bacon, mushroom, egg yolk) [120 THB]

This menu just amazed me. Normally Carbonara pasta are heavy and packed with cream and cheese which is yummy at first and ended up too fillings sometimes. This alternative twist are just light and refreshing. I ended up finishing the plate without feeling too full at all which is a rare occurrence.

Forest Bacon Pizza (Homemade Marinara Sauce, Bell pepper, Onion, Mushroom and Bacon) [199 THB]

Firstly, that 199 THB is a good deal for this pizza. Remember when I said the kitchen is just next to me? Cooking odor just leave more excited for this pizza. Seasoning are just satisfying for this menu. Only improvement for me is crispier bottom crust.

Overall, I would say reservation are worth the wait and pricing are just net price without any service charge. If you are taller than me I would say watch out for the roof since toilet roof are just same with my height. Khun Gig and Khun Mosh (The owners) are just friendly and passionate about their restaurant.

Ciao Pizza

Italian cuisine are easy to spot in Bangkok however, exceptional one are rare in my opinion. I got an advice from my friend to choose any menu I would like to try and I would not be disappointed. That is a bold statement which excites me to try out their dish.

From my observation, the staff are attentive and they align dish to come out in order, not at once which gave us a balance timing and I am greatly appreciated in their effort.

Chef’s Special on a black board

Starting with bread stick with olive oil, crispy texture as a fine way to start a meal.

Followed with Spaghetti Carbonara All’Italiana [R] – Bacon, Parmesan cheese, Pecorino cheese , egg yolk and black pepper [No cream]

Carbonara are expected to be cheesy around Thailand. This one came with a sourness twist which make every bites enjoyable and you just ended up with a empty plate within a blink.

Lasagna Romagnola [R] Homemade pork Lasagna, slightly sliced

Smooth and enjoyable Lasagna, I could imagine myself having this menu again in a distant future.

Ossobucco Alla Mamma – Wine slow cooked veal Ossobucco with Spinach spatzle

The looks might be deceiving could be the perfect description for this menu. Veal Ossobucco are cooked to the perfect tenderness with fluffy Spinach spatzle enhancing the flavor.

Tarfuto E Mortadella Al Grana Padano – Truffle, mortadella, Champignons, Stracciatella, Parmesan and Grana Padano cheese

This pizza is packed with gorgeous toppings which gives you waves of full flavor. A little bit too much salty for my taste though.

Medici is one of the fine dining restaurant in my list from Tatler event. with Neo Industrial decorations. First impression the hotel muse gave you a calm and vibrant feeling. The scent of hotel are quite strong and unique compare to others hotel in Bangkok. I personally like the vibe of tranquility and stylish vibrant at a moderate degree.

Visited in lunch period which they serves 2-courses or 3-courses lunch set from appetizer, main course and desserts. Starting off with complimentary bread serves with balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

Complimentary bread basket – Also tiny tomato hiding in the bread too :3

Followed by Local mud crab & Tomato Cannelloni – Sturgeon Caviar, Avocado mousse and Fried Lasagna. Fried Lasagna is actually a menu they provide in exclusively in catering menu that I got a chance to tried and love it! They prepare the meal per request so make sure you request for it before appointment to avoid disappointment.

Fried Lasagna – Profiterole, Parmesan Panna cotta, Sun dried tomato, balsamic vinegar, tomato sauce.

I had mistaken thought that the cheese would be coarse in my first encounter which turns out that this Lasagna could be so amazing in alternative form as the cheese are smooth and enjoyable with sourness and sweetness from other components.

Local mud crab & Tomato Cannelloni – Sturgeon Caviar, Avocado mousse
The harmony of this plate are just perfectly executed as fantastic and colorful way to start a meal.
Happy pig in the garden & Stuffed Chicken Breast
Happy pig in the garden – Joe Sloane’s pork tenderloin, grilled pork belly, cumin jus

Grilled pork belly are perfectly executed with a little sear on top to give a touch of crispiness followed by juicy texture of inner part. Tenderloin, baby potato and cumin jus are good. however, the best thing in the plate is still that Grilled pork belly. Probably the best aspect of the meal.

Stuffed chicken breast – Chicken leg confit. foie gras ravioli, truffle cream

Chicken breast are wrapped with bacon and the size is fillings and tender for a breast. Ravioli are delicate but the fillings are still a bit lacking of flavor.

Chocolate Brownie – brownie, roasted white chocolate.

There is a playful detail in this dessert that they included popping components in the chocolate so your desserts will end with a real popping which is quite fun for me. The chocolate are well balanced between bitterness and sweetness.

Tiramisu – fantastic cream texture
