Kensaku

Bangkok consists of insane amount of Japanese restaurant with different range of cuisine type and price ranges from reasonable to luxurious. Kensaku is well-presented for unique choice of seafood. Located in residence part of Aree area.

The ambiance are quite comforting and not too formal for a Japanese cuisine.

Three kinds of Sashimi – Well-decorated presentation with fresh and balance Sashimi size
Tendon – One of the most impressive Tempura shrimp texture in Bangkok
Una Don – One of the most recommended menu (Osusume) of this place. The texture of Unagi are just insanely good with homemade sauce and grilling technique.

DSC06281DSC06279DSC06291

The place is located in Thong Lor 9 & 11 and used to be Kushikatsu Daruma(Kushikatsu brand from Osaka).

DSC06373DSC06375

I went for a buffet menu with variety of Shabu options including Tempura, Sashimi and choices of drinks.

DSC06374DSC06381DSC06383

Vegetables and pork quality are higher than average comparing to other buffet competitors. I noticed limited options seems like a good decision for controlling quality of products. In this round, quality prevails.

Established in 1688, Misoka-an are located in Sanjo area of Kyoto. Previously as merchant’s home with central courtyard and small rooms. As I visited the place, my first impression was tranquility and serene feeling. This place holds one of the most well-established environment in my heart.

DSC04218DSC04219

Recommended menu is Hokouro which is one type of Nabe. However, I visited the place alone and serve only 2 persons portion which I ended up with Tempura Soba.

DSC04220

The place is so calm and relaxing. I would recommend this place since the ambiance is so well worth visiting.

DSC04222DSC04223DSC04225

The size of the bowl could be classified as small bowl in my standard. Tempura flour are not crazy light and could soak up some delicious broth from Soba which is very enjoyable for this bowl. Soba texture are smooth and delicious. Overall, this is one of the most satisfying Soba I have ever had with tranquility moment of the restaurant.

That’s all for my review. Personally, I think the place is worth visiting for their unique ambiance and quality. See you next later and hope you have a wonderful day 😊

Ohaiyo Gozaimasu! (Good morning) It’s autumn season all around in different region in Japan. I have been traveling to Kansai region in order to experience different aspect of Japan culture starting from my first destination, Kyoto.

DSC03995

Kyoto is an ancient town with rich and mysterious over thousand years as Japan’s former capital city leading to our first destination as Soba restaurant with nearly 550 years of history. Personally, 550 years history are quite impressive for me and I am quite excited to experience my dining experience in this restaurant.

DSC04003

I arrived at the restaurant around 6:00 PM on weekday and it’s quite dark already at that moment. From the first glance, I could feel that the place is quite ancient with full of history. Then I proceed into the restaurant.

DSC04006

I was greeted by the waitress which I was seated right away in the 1st floor. There are also 2nd floor table. The first thing I recognized was since the place started as a confectionery shop, they still retain their heritage and still sell confectionery at the front of the store.

DSC04007

They also provide English menu. I ordered Soba set with tempura and added larger Soba portion.

DSC04014DSC04016

My meal arrived shortly after the order. I could notice that the texture of soba are so refined and delicate since the restaurant has been perfecting their skills on confectionery and applied to Soba crafting skills. Zaru Soba (Dipping soba into the sauce) shows that the soba texture was so smooth and kept me on eating. In addition, the dipping sauce are also well seasoned and not too salty resulting in one of the most satisfying meal.

DSC04017DSC04018

Tempura texture are not too oily and retains crispiness. The quality is great and enjoyable. however, it’s still pale comparison to extraordinary Soba.

DSC04020DSC04022DSC04025

Finished my meal with great satisfaction. For me, Soba is a great experience in Japanese cuisine and healthy meal since it does not give the overload feeling after the meal like Ramen.

DSC04201

Then I proceed to Gion district in the night. Gion is a well harmony between past and present which is one of my favorite place in Kyoto. That’s all for my review. Personally, I think the place is worth visiting for their ancient and refined Soba skill. See you next later and hope you have a wonderful day 😊

DSC03570DSC03577

I arrived at the restaurant about 10:50 AM. Ten minutes after that, the place just filled with parked cars and people starts lining around. Seems like a rush for a lunch.

DSC03571

I went with a Tempura and Soba set (1,150 Yen).

DSC03572

Shrimp tempura is one of the best. The texture of shrimp is firm and sweet. Soba texture is also consistent.

I have arrived around noon and got seated right away. Cool air conditioner compared to crazy hot temperature outside.

Assorted Tempura set
Containing two shrimps, whiting, Conge eel, Kakiage with rice and soup
At first glance, Tempura texture are not oily at all. Harmony of crispiness with moderate sweetness from the sauce makes a divine taste. Dipping sauce in this restaurant also does not leave a little bad aftertaste which is very impressive for me. Overall, this is one of the best Tempura with fresh and balance flavor.

DSC02284DSC02287

Kakiage is a combination of shrimp and whiting with Tempura batter also have sweet and crispy flavor. Similarly, shrimp, whiting and Conge eel have the sweetness and cripsiness.

That’s all for this review. Personally, I think this is an amazing choice for legendary Tempura choice in Asakusa area with 100+ year history with convenient location in famous tourist attraction.
